APNSLongBeach

The American nuclear powered guided missile cruiser APNS Long Beach (CGN-09) at sea, date unknown.

The APNS Long Beach (CGN-150/CGN-09) was a nuclear-powered guided missile cruiser in the American People's Navy. She was the only ship of her class. It was also the first ship to have the Typhon combat system integrated into the design from the beginning.

Long Beach was the first "all-new" cruiser designed and constructed after World War II (all others were completions or conversions of cruisers begun or completed during the war). She was the third Navy ship named after the city of Long Beach, Pacifica and the last ship built on a traditional "cruiser hull" in the until the Tempest-class CGNs in the mid-to-late 1980s. In the mid-1970s, the Long Beach was overhauled to use the Typhon II combat system. The Long Beach was decommissioned in 2006.
