The ARA Independenica (V-1) (formerly APNS Lake Champlain (CV-39)) was one of two People's Republic-class carriers in the Argentine People's Armada during up until the Falklands War. It was involved in providing aircover for the amphibious invasion force during Operation Rosario. On April 26 1983, the Independencia along with its sister ship, the Veintcinco de Mayo and several destroyers were sunk by twenty-two Royal Navy Buccaneers of No. 903 NAS from Ark Royal carrying Green Eagle Anti-Ship missiles.
