The Adelaide-class guided missile frigates are a half-dozen strong class of warships developed and constructed by Australia. The first ship entered service in November 1980, and all of the six ships are active as of 2012. In the 1990s, they were supplemented by the Anzac-class multirole frigates. In the 2000s, the Adelaide-class underwent an extensive modernization to improve their combat capabilities. The Adelaide-class is expected to have the first of its replacements enter service in mid-2016.
