CANZAC, standing for Canada, Australia and New Zealand Allied Community is an economic and military agreement between the Commonwealth Realms of Canada, Australia and New Zealand. The term emerged during World War II as a means of referring collectively to the Dominions and continues to be used in this way, and a treaty by the same name was signed in the 1970s. The name "CANZAC" was derived from the term "ANZAC" (Austrialia and New Zealand Army Corps), which was used in World War I. The name "Canada, Australia and New Zealand Allied Community" is a backronym fashioned to fit the acronym already in use.
