The Chengtu J-9 is a supersonic interceptor developed for the People's Liberation Army Air Force as a replacement for the St. Louis AF F-101/57 and Long Beach AF F-106/59 interceptors. Like the Shenyang J-13 fighter and Hsian H-8 strategic bomber, it is powered by a Woshan WS-6 afterburning turbofan engine.
