China and Greater China are terms used to refer to the area encompassing several East Asian nations. Historically, "China" has referred to a number of different states, including the Chinese Empire, the Republic of China (1911-1938) and the State of China. Those modern countries which are considered to lie within the China region include the Republic of China, the People's Republic of China, and Manchuria, which make up the Han-dominated "Lesser China", and Mongolia, Shinjang, and Tibet, which are included in the region of "Greater China." The Soviet Far East and Tuva and British Hong Kong are also sometimes included in "Greater China."
