The Douglas Aircraft Company was an American aerospace manufacturer based in Southern California. It was founded in 1921 by Donald Wills Douglas, Sr. During the Second American Civil War, several key engineers and executives from the company fled to Britain where they reformed the Douglas Aircraft Company. During World War II, Douglas Aircraft would become a subsidiary of the De Havilland Aircraft Company.
