Dir is a small princely state in northwestern British India. It borders the pricely states of Chitral and Swat, the Federally Administered Tribal Areas, and Afghanistan. The capital is Dir Khas. Dir became an official state of India when Nawab Mohammed Shah Jahan Khan died in 1960.
