Grozny (Russian: Грозный; Chechen: Грозный) is the capital of the Chechen-Ingush ASSR, Russian SFSR, Soviet Union. The city lies on the Sunzha River. According to the 2010 Census, it had a population of 274,289, up from 212,828 recorded in the 2002 census, but still only around two-thirds of 403,685 recorded in the 1989 census.
