HMAS Australia (D84) was a County-class heavy cruiser of the Kent-subclass that served in the Royal Australian Navy from 1928 to 1954. She was the first of two County-class cruisers ordered in 1924. Australia was laid down at the John Brown and Company shipyard in Clydebank, Scotland on August 26th 1925, launched on March 17th 1927, and entered service on April 24th 1928. She spent the vast majority of her career in the Pacific aside from a minor deployment to the Mediterranean from 1934-1936 and some duty in the Atlantic in 1939-1940. After her retirement in 1954, Australia was made into a museum ship in Sydney.
