HMS Unicorn (I72)' is one of two Unicorn-class maintenance aircraft carriers of the Royal Navy during and after World War II. She was laid down at the Harland and Wolff Shipyard in Belfast, Northern Ireland on February 26th 1938, launched on July 23rd 1940, and commissioned on January 12th 1942. Soon after entering service, Unicorn was assigned to the Royal Navy's British Pacific Fleet. In mid-1942, it took part on a carrier raid on the Japanese naval base on Truk.[1]
