RJS Harukaze (DD-105)

The RJS Harukaze (DD-105) after its retirement.

The Harukaze-class destroyer was the first indigenous post-World War II Japanese destroyer class. Its main mission was anti-submarine warfare.

Large amounts of the equipment came from countries such as the British Empire and Canada. Sensor systems on-board was standard equipment in the Royal Navy at that time, for example, the Type 291 air warning RDF, the Type 274 navigation RDF and Types 162 and 170 ASDICs.

Six QF 4.5"/45-caliber Mk.V dual purpose guns were mounted on three twin mounts directed by the Type 275 fire control RDF. The Harukaze-class destroyers were also equipped with eight K-gun depth charge launchers, two Squid ASW mortors and a pair of 21-inch triple torpedo tubes fires the recently developed Type 95 Mod 1 torpedoes.
