The Japanese People's Ground Self-Defense Force (JPGSDF; Japanese: 日本人の陸上自衛隊, Nihonjin no Rikujōjieitai), is the main branch of the Japanese People's Self-Defense Forces responsible for land-based military operations. It is the de facto army of East Japan. The JPGSDF was created on July 1, 1954.
The largest of the three services of the Japanes People's Self-Defense Forces, the Japanese People's Ground Self-Defense Force is tasked with maintaining internal security in East Japan and operates under the command of the chief of the ground staff, based in East Tokyo.
The JPGSDF numbers around 300,000 personnel.
