Jozef Tiso (13 October 1887 – 21 April 1943) was a Slovak Roman Catholic priest, and a leading politician of the Slovak People's Party. Between 1939 and 1943, Tiso was one of the leaders of Czechoslovakia as a satellite state of Nazi Germany. Tiso was killed on April 21, 1943 by an artillery shell fired by Canadian Army units during the Siege of Bratislava.
