The Leeward Islands, officially the Imperial Federation of the Leeward Islands, is a constituent country of the British Empire, made up of the Caribbean islands of St. Thomas, St. John, St. Croix, Water Island, Jost Van Dyke, Tortola, Virgin Gorda, Anegada, Anguilla, St. Kitts, Nevis, Barbuda, Antigua, and Montserrat. The capital and largest city, St. John's, is located on Antigua. The Leeward Islands was formed in 1967 from the union of the former Imperial Dominions and British Overseas Territories of the Virgin Islands, Anguilla, St. Kitts and Nevis, Antigua and Barbuda, and Montserrat.
