The M-4/40 medium tank was the most numerous battle tank used by the UAPR in World War II. It proved to be reliable and mobile. In spite of being outclassed by British, German and Soviet medium and heavy tanks late in the war, the M4 was was cheaper to produce and available in greater numbers.

  • M4: Continental radial engine; welded hull. 75mm short barrel cannon.
  • M4A1: Continental radial engine; one-piece cast hull; 75mm short barrel cannon.
  • M4A2: Diesel-powered with General Motors 6046 using powertrain from earlier M3A3/M3A5; first model manufactured with welded hull and torsion bar suspension. Armed with a 75mm long barrel cannon.
  • M4A3: V-8 engine; welded hull; torsion bar suspension. Armed with a 76mm/57-caliber M1 cannon.
