The Oyodo-class light cruisers were a pair of light cruisers in service in the Imperial Japanese Navy during World War II in the late part of 1943.
The Ōyodo-class design was approved under the 1939 4th Replenishment Program as an enlarged and improved version of the Agano-class. It was designed to be the flagship for attack groups of submarines.
Initially, plans were made for eight vessels in the class. However, only two vessels were actually authorized. Both vessels were laid down in early 1941. They would be launched throughout 1942 and commission in early-to-mid 1943.
