Pyeongyang (Korean: 평양, 平壤; literally: "Flat Land" or "Peaceful Land") is a Special City of Korea. Pyeongyang is located on the Daedong River and, according to preliminary results from the 2008 population census, has a population of 3,255,388. The city was split from Pyeongan province in 1948.
