The SEPECAT Jaguar is an Anglo/French attack aircraft that served in the Royal Air Force, French Air Force, and Marine Nationale in the close air support role.
Originally conceived in the 1960s as a jet trainer with a light ground attack capability, the requirement for the aircraft soon changed to include supersonic performance and reconnaissance capability. A carrier based version entered French service alongside the Dassault-Breguet Super Étendard. The airframes were manufactured by SEPECAT (Société Européenne de Production de l'avion Ecole de Combat et d'Appui Tactique), a joint venture between Breguet and English Electric.
The Jaguar proved to be a very popular aircraft and was exported to Australia, Belgium, Bulgaria, South China, Czechoslovakia, Ecuador, Egypt, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iran, West Japan, Kuwait, Netherlands, New Zealand, Niger, Oman, Poland, Portugal, Thailand, Turkey, and Ukraine.
