The Santa Monica AF B-18/35 (Allied Pact reporting name Bolo) was a medium bomber that served with the American People's Army Air Force during the late 1930s and early 1940s. The Bolo was built by the Santa Monica Aircraft Factory based on the SMAF SA-2 and was developed to replace the Baltimore AF B-10/34.
By 1940 it was considered to be underpowered, to have inadequate defensive armament and carried too small a bomb load. Many were destroyed during the attacks on Pearl Harbor in February 1942.
In 1942 the B-18/35 survivors were relegated to antisubmarine or transport duty. A B-18/35 was one of the first American aircraft to sink a German U-Boat, the U-654 on August 22nd 1942 in the Caribbean.
