Saxony-Anhalt (German: Sachsen-Anhalt) is a landlocked federal state of Germany surrounded by the federal states of Lower Saxony, Brandenburg, Saxony and Thuringia.
Its capital is Magdeburg and its largest city is Halle. Saxony-Anhalt covers an area of 20,451.6 km2 (7,896.40 square miles) and has a population of approximately 2.62 million.
Saxony-Anhalt should not be confused with Saxony or Lower Saxony, also German states.
