The Seattle AF E-6/89 (Allied Pact reporting name Mercury) is an airborne command post and communications relay based on the Seattle AF S707-320. The original E-6A manufactured by Seattle Aircraft Factory entered service with the American People's Navy in July 1989, replacing the Bethpage AF EC-130Q. The E-6B replaced APAAF EC-135s in the "Looking Glass" role, providing command and control of American nuclear forces should ground-based control become inoperable. With production lasting until 1991, the E-6 was the final new derivative of the Seattle AF S707 to be built.
