The Supermarine Seafire was a naval version of the Supermarine Spitfire adapted for operation from aircraft carriers. The name Seafire was arrived at by abbreviating the longer name Sea Spitfire. Early Seafires had problems relating to navalization and it wasn't until the production of the Seafire Mk.V which was introduced in September 1943 that the problems were sorted out. The Seafire would be replaced by the Hawker Sea Hawk in 1946.[1]
