The Vanguard-class nuclear attack submarines built for and operated by the Royal Navy from the late 1970s onwards.
The Vanguard-class pioneered many propulsion improvements including a natural circulation reactor plant, scoop seawater injection, the ability to cross connect main and auxiliary seawater systems, main air ejectors, and a directly coupled main engine turbine.
- The Vanguard-class is comparable in capabilities to the OTL USS Narwhal (SSN-671). In OTL, The Vanguard-class is a class of four SSBN that entered service with the Royal Navy in 1993 and are still in service, ITTL given the lack of SSBNs, the Vanguard-class are just SSNs.
