Vladivostok (Russian: Владивосток, lit. ruler of the East) is a city and the administrative center of Primorsky Krai, Soviet Union, located at the head of the Golden Horn Bay, not far from the Soviet Union's borders with Manchuria and Korea. The population of the city as of 2016 is 619,720, up from 597,380 recorded in the 2010 Soviet Census. The city is the home port of the Soviet Pacific Fleet and the largest Soviet port on the Pacific Ocean. It is described as the Soviet Union's Portsmouth.
