West Tokyo is a political exclave of West Japan that has existed as an enclave of East Japan since 1952. It comprises the western regions of Tokyo, which are bordered by East Tokyo and parts of East Japan. West Tokyo consists of the Allied occupation sectors, which were established in 194?. It is politically closely affiliated with West Japan, although it has a special status, because its administration is formally conducted by the Allies. East Tokyo encompasses the region occupied and administered by America, and is claimed as its capital by East Japan. The Allies do not recognise this claim, as they assert that the entire city of Tokyo is legally under administration by the occupying countries.
